The leading university Master’s program in communications management and public relations in the German speaking area
The Master Communication Management program quantifies in performing strategically substantiated and theoretically reflective managerial activities within the communications of companies, political institutions and nonprofit organizations. Furthermore it functions as qualification for future research careers (PhD) in the field of communications management/PR. Intensive contacts within the industry and the international research provide an ideal environment.
The accredited course of studies always starts in winter term. Every year up to 30 students get enrolled. The application period starts in the beginning of April and takes till the end of May. The mandatory appointments are always published here.
We take our time for a qualified selection process. The personal talks are conducted by the professors themselves. Since a qualified group is a requirement for individual success, we expect academic performance, motivation, professional knowledge and practical experience. That’s why we provide the best PR education as well as the practice of most known professors in the German speaking area (Ranking 2010; newsaktuell/dpa; ranking 2012; BdP).

Final degree: Master of Arts (M.A.), 120 ECTS
Duration of study: 4 terms (full-time study)
Study start: every winter term
Altogether 10 modules as well as one scientific Master thesis (5 month of working time) enable the development of high professional, conciliatory and social competence in the fields of communications management (introduction, theory, practice, action fields), of management theory: strategy, organization and leadership, of empirical methods and of strategic communications management. Thereby lectures, seminaries, case studies and exercises are combined.
To give proof of knowledge and capabilities, research and transfer projects are initiated with renowned partners for several months (e.g. BASF, Deutsche Post DHL, Volkswagen, Scholz & Friends, Unicef, Greenpeace Magazin, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, Porsche): one student team works on a research project or a communication conception and like that put its creativity and team will ability to test.
A lot of students decide to absolve an additional semester abroad e.g. at one of our partner universities in the USA, Great Britain, Spain, Finland, Hong Kong, Turkey or South Africa.
Renowned scientists of the department of Communication Management are teaching within an international network and an extensive research program at the Master’s program. With more than 80 books and more than 400 multilingual professional contributions by the professors the Leipzig PR research is leading internationally. The training stuff consists of contract teachers with many years of work experience in the leading of communications management from economy, politics, institutions, media and agencies as well as other professors at the institute.
There is no tuition fee. Semester dues and expenditures for literature, subsistence and so on have to be carried. The program is a time-consuming full time study. Accompanying it exists the possibility to be engaged associate in research projects with international partners (universities, DAX companies, professional associations) at the institute.
Foreign students, please note: At present, the majority of courses in the Master Communication Management programme are conducted in German language. Full command of German language is a prerequisite for application as regular student, while visiting students need to demonstrate adequate skills.
